Isabella Stewart
Artist
Isabella Stewart is an artist and writer based in Chico, California. A lifelong storyteller, she began writing in childhood and later immersed herself in drama, writing, and filmmaking throughout her school years. She studied Communications at California State University, Chico, before life’s path shifted toward marriage, raising children, and eventually returning to college to pursue nursing.
Stewart’s literary career took shape in the early 2000s. In 2002, she co-authored Faces of Chico with Lois Morrison, followed by her first solo publication, Virgin Mother of Three, released under the name I.A. Crumpton in 2003. Her journey into visual art began in 2010, when she discovered a passion for painting. She quickly became active in the Chico art community, exhibiting work regularly before pausing her practice to focus on a career in health administration and care for aging family members.
Though she remained connected to the arts during this period, it was in July 2017 that Stewart fully returned to her creative life, leaving healthcare to recommit herself to painting and writing. Since then, she has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, with her works now held in private collections throughout California and Oregon.
In 2017, she founded Joie de Vie Art & Word, establishing a dedicated platform for her artistic and literary endeavors—a space where her passion for visual storytelling continues to evolve and flourish.
